General
You may enrol on our courses at any time.
Work at your own speed and in your own time.
Course content is divided into sections or modules referred to as Study Packs.
There is no rush or hassle, you simply request your next Pack as and when you are ready for it. Scroll down for exam and certificate information.

Long Courses
Level 1 and 2 contain 7 Study Packs each, Level 3 contains 10
It is important to note that the Level 3 course is not a stand alone course. For new students holding BHS HOC 1 & 2 however, a discount on a combined e-mail enrolment for Level 2 & 3 is available.
The new Level 4 course is currently on hold owing to time constraints but is normally available to anyone who has completed BHS Horse Owner's Certificates 1 - 3 with Lingfield Correspondence.
Study Packs vary in length, some contain over 80 pages. In the Level 1 course the complete course contains over 400 pages. Thus providing students with an estimated 28 hours of lecture material. This in turn converts to between 28 to 200 hours of reading or study time. However, as with all courses like this, it is dependent on student input.
At the end of the long course if your work is satisfactory, you may achieve a Lingfield Certificate or sit the relevant level BHS Horse Owner's Certificate exam in your own home providng you reside in UK or Eire.
Here is how it works:
On receipt of your first Study Pack you simply read it through, making notes as you go. When you are ready you request the next Pack. That's all there is to it!
Those taking the Long Courses, will find that every Study Pack contains several optional Set Work questions. At the end of each Study Pack we provide an answer guidance sheet giving pointers and information on how you should have answered the Set Work in the previous Study Pack.
The answer guidance sheet makes it easy for you to correct any mistakes and to gauge your own progress as you work through a course
We ask for a break of a few days between receipt of one Pack and sending us the request for the next. This ensures students make time to write up relevant notes and do a little research. Those who aim to work in the industry, teaching or running a livery yard, will find their own file of notes to be an ideal tool for future training of staff or clients
Short Courses
Each short course includes at least one written assignment, some also include a practical assignment. Successfully completed assignments accrue credits towards entry to the BHS Horse Owner's Certificates Level 1 exam run by Lingfield Correspondence. Further courses are gradullay being introduced over the forthcoming months.
It is expected that 11-15 LEC credits must be achieved for entry to this exam and 4 must be gold credits. Assignments from specific short courses will be awarded gold credits.
All short courses offer free tutor support and provide approximately 25-35 hours of study time - depending on the particular course and student input.
A Lingfield Equine Care & Management Certificate is awarded to those who successfully complete the Set Work in the final Study Pack.This Set Work is presented in the form of an exam. In line with many other college 'in house' certification, we take students on trust that they will answer as though they were in an exam situation.
Successful completion of a Short Course gains an LEC Certificate (Lingfield Equine Course).
Lingfield Certificates
A Lingfield Equine Course Certificate is awarded to those who successfully complete the Set Work (in house exam) in the final Study Pack. In line with many other college 'in house' certification, we take students on trust that they will answer as though they were in an exam situation.
Successful completion of a Short Course also gains an LEC Certificate (Lingfield Equine Course).

Our free Helpline offering friendly expert help and advice on all horse or riding related matters is available throughout your course. Tutor support is also free for all students.
BHS Exams & Certificates information
An alternative to achieving the Lingfield Care & Management Equine Certificate is to sit the optional BHS HOC (Horse Owner's Certificates) exams. For entry to this, at the end of the long courses, you are required to successfully complete and send in the Set Work on completion of each of the last 3 or 4 Packs in your course. These are checked by your course tutor and returned with feedback.
BHS Exams
These BHS HOC exams may be sat in your own home in UK. Conforming strictly to BHS guidelines, we will find you an external freelance invigilator to bring the exam paper to your home and to oversee your exam. The invigilator is not usually a horse person and will be unknown to you. The BHS exam department 01926-707700 will confirm validity of these exams. See the BHS web site www.bhs.org.uk for syllabi and sample papers. Overseas students may sit the exams at the British Council offices in their own country. Contact the British Council in your country to establish availability of exam facilities and costs.
Tutor support is available free for every student throughout their course by telephone, post or e-mail. We like to be on first name terms with all our students and welcome your contact be it for help and advice or just a chat to tell us about your new horse. However, you have as much or as little contact as you wish.
How long will a course take?
When you enrol, we don't send you the whole course in one big file and then just leave you to get on with it. This we feel, is like you paying for a rather expensive book!
Although this would be an easy and economical way to run the courses, our Study Packs provide you with easily absorbed bite sized chunks of information, and your regular contact with us helps to keep you motivated
Students with a busy life who are juggling work, family and horses etc, seem to work at the rate of approximately one Study Pack a month. Some people however, work more quickly than this, whilst others take a good deal longer.In the end however, how long it takes you depends on your input, the more work you put in, the more you get out of it.
